World Blood Donor Day in Singapore

To recognise World Blood Donor Day, Real Singapore hopes to play our part by raising awareness and the importance of this day. Although we can’t predict a disaster, we can ensure that when one happens, victims of disasters can be saved because of the blood you donated.

What can you do? Give Blood. Give Now. Give Often.

This is the slogan that World Health Organisation (WHO) has in line with their campaign to raise awareness on the need for safe blood and blood products as well as thank all blood donors. Every single blood donor is a life-saving hero. We can all do our part by donating blood today.

Why do we need to donate blood when there isn’t a disaster?

Blood is an extremely important resource. Be it for treatment or urgent situations like disasters, it is often a key component in relieving a patient from life-threatening conditions. In fact, it is needed to support complex medical and surgical procedures as well. As mentioned by WHO, blood services face the challenge of making sufficient blood available while ensuring its quality and safety in many countries. This is especially true for developing countries that do not have the right facilities and sufficient blood donors, yet are more susceptible to natural disasters.

It is hence important to stress the urgency of donating blood regularly, so that the blood stock is sufficient before an emergency arises. Every single person can play their part in helping others. Real Singapore will also like to encourage all of you to strengthen emergency preparedness of health services in your community through the blood donations you can be a part of.

How can you donate blood today?

You can head down to the Bloodbank at the Health Sciences Authority to donate blood or get involved in a community blood donation drive near you! You may also participate in Bloodmobile which are available at different locations across Singapore.

Real Singapore would like to thank you for your generous donation!
