Drawing on experiences to drive the industry
Joy Cressot, Principal Consultant at Real Life Sciences, France talks about the passion and determination she’s seen first-hand in the industry.
Chance meetings
Every day I come to work in the knowledge that the candidates and companies I work with are changing lives and are supporting people that need a variety of treatments. To hear the passion and drive of those I work with is so inspiring.
I met a few years ago with the general manager of a biotech company who was incredibly talented and impressive – she has this passion, and commitment to the industry that I truly appreciated and respected. She spoke of her daughter, who was diagnosed with Sanfilippo syndrome, a very rare disease affecting her growth and ultimately, her life.
After receiving the news, together with her husband, they researched every possible existing treatment available, and found nothing. Faced with limited options, they decided to create a biotech company that would gather the greatest expert physicians and scientists in the field.
They progressed to pre-clinical trials and are currently in Phase II and are partnering with prestigious medical schools and universities to raise much needed funds to bring this breakthrough therapy to those that need it.
Loyal passion
I’ve come across many stories similar to this, where a company is created by people who have experienced tough times whether it’s the loss of a relative or severe emotional distress having impacted their lives.
Individuals like these who are working within life sciences have the courage and dedication to take research a step further. They take what I can only imagine to be one of the hardest challenges of their lives and turn it around to benefit the wider industry and change the lives of many.
Working with these inspiring people brings home how much we owe those working within life sciences, and if I can help source the talent organisations need and help in some small way I’m proud to be able to help.
